Lots of Changes!

Since the last update, Christmas has come and gone! We spent Christmas Eve with Éva and Gyuri. On our way home we stopped by my brother's place to join them and Barb's side of the family...all 25 of them...wow-huge family. It was great to see them all, it has been way too long. Christmas Day was at my mom's. We had a giant turkey with her famous stuffing, cabbage rolls, and her yummy baking! I did my best to say a little speach - but of course I only got a few words out before my eyes teared up...but I got through it. Boxing Day, we took Éva and Gyuri to the airport...we sent them to Hungary for 3 weeks!! Éva's brother and wife didn't know they were going. What a great surprise!

There has been a few changes at the house. The taping and sanding was done a few weeks ago. As soon as Attila saw this, he jumped on it and got his guy to "prime" the whole house - it was done in less than 4 hours. Since then, we have been working on the accent colors for different rooms, and feature walls.
We were just there this afternoon and the cabinets are all unpacked and sorted into their appropriate rooms. WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! It's going to look great! Trevor at Legacy Kitchens is the best to work with. He's actually the same guy who helped us with our McKenzie Towne house. Of course I forgot to bring the camera with me this time so perhaps we will go out there tomorrow and take pictures of the cabinets.

Progress.

Attila went to the house on Tuesday afternoon and the corner beads were up and the guys were "taping". Not sure what's happening in the basement; whether they've started to insultate?? We'll check it out this weekend - in the daylight.

2 years

It has been 2 years since my dear dad passed away. Attila and I are spending the evening at my mom's house with my brother Attila and Barb, Krissy and Katie; reminicing and looking through old pictures and generally just spending time TOGETHER.

We love you Apu, and we miss you lots!!

Craft Night #2

Last Wednesday's craft night was a blast. I ate way too many pea pods (thanks for mentioning you-know-what Julie). I also started a project that I've never done before...cross stitch. Well, actually, I have done cross stitch before, only it was a cross stitch pattern onto a crocheted blanket, i.e. "crochet cross stitch combo". It is the Hungarian flag with the cimer (coat of arms) in the middle.

Kalotaszegi pillow PLATE

A few weeks ago, Elsie, Julie and I went to UB the Artist and enjoyed a painting night. Finally, after all theses months of only Festival stuff...a project we started and finished that was OUR OWN! This is how my plate turned out. It's a copy of a Kalotaszegi pillow pattern in of course color NUMBER 74!!

Concrete!

Finally, the basement floor is poured! Also the front steps and entrance area, and all the way around the garage.

28th Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival - 28. Nyugat-Kanadai Magyar Folklór Fesztivál

"What a great success!!"

"Best ever festival!"

"Extremely well orgainzed!"

All we have been getting are rave reviews like these from everyone. Thank you so much to our awesome organizing committee (Attila, Chris, Elsie, Julie, Katie, Klementina, Leanne, Mary, Rob, Zsuzsa) and to ALL the others behind the scenes.

Coming Along!

It's been a long time since the last update. Nothing has changed on the outside. Things are progressing slowly and nicely. Electrical is in; plumbing is in; just waiting to have the basement floor poured and the outside areas...around the garage, sidewalk and front entrance. The stairs are finally constructed to get up into the loft/office area above the garage! It will be a great workspace for Attila. I may never see him again! Hmmm.

Festival is just around the corner; Dűvő arrives in a couple of weeks; soon after Gábor and Franci also arrive...dance, dance, dance, buli, dance some more.

Windows and Shingles!

Not too much has changed (visibly) over the past few weeks. The shingles are on the roof and the windows and doors have been installed. The electrical is done upstairs. We are still waiting for the basement floor and garage floor to be poured.

Roof - Stairs - Deck!!

The pictures are self explanatory. We have a robin family that have moved into the garage. One of the birds was freaking out that we were walking around. That's OK. I'll will be my turn to freak out on them when we move in and they are still there. The stairs are in at the front entrance; still waiting on the stairs leading up into the loft/office. I haven't been up there yet-we keep forgetting to bring a ladder with us.

Attila Has An Office!

Attila's office area above the garage - has walls. He's very excited and can hardly wait to move in and start using it. The windows and doors were also delivered today. We'll be changing the front door - we actually never got to choose the style...aaaaannd...we don't like it.
Just a silly shot of Tisza - she makes us laugh!

Front & Back

These first two shots are of the trees that we'll see right outside our front door.

This is a neat shot of the front entrance; you can see right through to the other side.
...the grass is always greener on the other side!

Outside Walls!

Framing is moving right along. Today Attila and I went for a visit and the outside walls are all up except for the Great Room. Now we have a better perspective of the rooms and WINDOWS! WOW! They're huge.
  • The first picture is the view from the dining room
  • I'm standing in the dining room looking across the house towards the ensuite
  • View from the window in what will be the magyar szoba
  • And last - Attila in the great room.

Everything is wet - there was a bit of a downpour just before we got there. Apparently this week is supposed to be rainy.

More Framing!

Attila and I took Tisza for a visit to her future home. She was "barátkozni" with the horses, llamas, ponys that are on the farm across from us. The horses, llamas, ponys noticed Tisza and became very curious. They would run towards us, spot Tisza and run away - but immediately turn back towards us again. It was quite funny to watch.

szombat, május 13

Back-filled & framing!

Last night we went for a visit to the acreage...the piles of dirt around the house have now been "back-filled". We can actually walk right up to the concrete walls and look down into the basement. This afternoon we drove out again with Attila's parents and the framing has begun. In the photo I'm looking through what will be a basement window of one of the two bedrooms. In the bottom photo, I'm standing in the garage.

szombat, május 6

Walls!

Attila, Elsie and I drove out after bingo to check out the house. Monday they should backfill and later in the week the framing begins!

csütörtök, május 4

Poured!

The concrete was poured this past Monday, May 1st. YAY! Tuesday we went to Legacy to review the cabinets (kitchen, washrooms, bar). Later we had our 2nd appointment with Canyon Plumbing. We still have about 6 other places to go for selections (baseboards, casings, doors, door knobs, lighting, stairs, railing, granite, exterior colors....the list goes on). Hopefully we'll get out there in the next couple of days for photos.
